William J. Becker

William J. Becker, age 95, of White Oak, died July 21, 2011.He was born in McKeesport on Aug. 3, 1915 and was the son of the late Francis and Emma Kostic Becker. He was the husband of the late Rose Crawford Becker who died Aug. 29, 1999.

He was retired from Roy C. Price Iron Works as a plant superintendent for 42 years, a member of St. Angela Merici Church where he was a former head usher and former head of the lectors, former President of the Holy Name Society, former member of the Keener Citizens, a Judge of Elections for the 6th District, a 4-H Leader for several decades and former President and Treasurer of the Allegheny County Agricultural Extention Association. He was an avid gardener that has kept the family tradition alive. For him it was more than a hobby; it was a way of life.

He is survived by his children Rose (the late Edward) Eckman of Hunker, PA, William J. (the late Marjorie) Becker, lll of Irwin, Frank (Sheila) Becker of Buckhannon, W. VA and Paul Becker of White Oak, grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Foust, Patrick (Katie) Becker, William J. Becker, IV, Kort Eckman and Angela Byrd and great grandchildren Charles Maurice Hython, Zackary Becker and T.J. Byrd. He was preceded in death by his siblings Helen, Frank and John.

Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at St. Angela Merici Church at 11:30 am with the Very Rev. Stephen M. Chervenak officiating. Burial will follow.
