Walter S. Wampler, Jr., "Pap" 79, of White Oak, departed this life on Sept. 21, 2012 in his sleep. He is now reunited with the love of his life Charlane "Chick-a-dee" Wampler, to whom he was married to for 53 years.
He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Cynthia and Kimberly, sister Wilda Jean Moore, and parents Walter Scott and Thelma Mary Bost Wampler, Sr..
Beloved "Pap" of Jarred S. Barnes and Taryn A. Barnes, daughter; Cindy L. (Nick) Sarafis of Port Vue, son; Scott (Wendy) Wampler, grandsons; Douglas and Ryan Wampler of Fredericksburg, Md.
Walter "Scotty" was an outstanding football player and wrestler for Munhall High School from where he graduated. He went on to play football for Penn State University.
He enlisted in the Marines and was stationed at Parris Island, SC where he obtained the rank of sergeant and was a physical training, rifle range instructor and drill sergeant. After the Marines he went to work for
Peoples Natural Gas where he started as a ditch digger and retired after 34 years in 1990 as a Senior Lease and Right at way agent. He was a member of the F & AM Alliquippa Lodge No. 375.
His passions in life were hunting, going to White Oak Pool, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and above all, his family. He was an excellent husband, father, neighbor and friend to all that knew him and will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received from 2:00 until 5:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177). Masonic Services will be held at 5:00 pm followed by Full Military Services.
