Virginia "Red" M. Bires

Virginia M. "Red" Bires, of McKeesport and Liberty Boro, age 90, died January 30, 2011. Born July 4, 1920 in McKeesport she is the daughter of the late Roy and Bridget Atkinson Gay. She is the wife of the late Edward R. Bires (Bireschik)

She is survived by son Roy (Corinne) Bires of Swissvale, grandchildren Brigitte (John) Busch of Braddock Hills and Julie (Brian) Curran of Kensington, MD. Great grandchildren Xander, Becca and Addie. Preceded in death by siblings Sarah Dunlap, Elma Conley , Jim Gay, and Ronald Gay A.K.A. Arthur Kibe.

She had worked for the former Jaisons Dept. store and sisters clothing store and previously worked in Duquesne Works during WWII.

She was a life long member of West Side United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher, former member of the McKeesport YMCA and was an avid vitamin advocate, gardener and loved feeding the birds.

Friends will be received at the Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler Funeral Home, 600 Market Street, McKeesport, 15132 (412-678-6191) on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8. Services will be held Wednesday at Noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow.
