Sophie Germack

Sophie Germack, age 90, of McKeesport, PA, died on Sunday, October 11, 2026. She was born in Clairton, PA on February 18, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Virginis and Catherine Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Elmer J. Germack, who passed away on September 12, 2005, and her sister Mary Ann Sinko.

Sophie is survived by her son, Larry (Ethel) Germack, daughter Diane Germack, grandchildren Natalie (Ron) Minnich, Ruby Germack, Madeline (Bianca) Whitney, and great-grandchildren Ava Minnich and Anthony Minnich, who brought immense joy to her final years.

Sophie graduated from McKeesport High School in 1954. She was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Wightman Health Center for over 20 years. She was also one of the first volunteers for McKeesport EMS. Sophie was an excellent baker, a fan of crossword puzzles, and an avid reader. She enjoyed an active and social lifestyle in the community, playing cards with highschool friends and walking daily in Renzie Park.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who supported Sophie during her final days.

Sophie was buried next to her husband, Elmer J. Germack, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Elizabeth Twp., PA, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Arrangements were cared for by Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, and Adam Striffler Galaski, funeral director, 412-678-6177).
