Raymond Paul

Raymond Paul Mackanic, Jr., 59, of Dravosburg, passed away Nov. 12, 2010 peacefully at home with his family at his side. He was born in McKeesport on November 3, 1951 and is the son of the late Raymond Paul and Beatrice Rebecca (Winklevoss) Mackanic.

He is survived by loving wife (of 38 wonderful years) and best friend and soul mate Michelle Lyn Mackanic , daughter Crassandra Lyn Dinning of Dravosburg, son Jay Michael Mackanic, son in law, Allen Dwight Dinning (which was his son in heart and mind), grandson Jonathan Isaiah Raymond Dinning (the light of his life & his little hon).

He worked for Bettis Atomic plant and retired on a medical leave from Westinghouse Transportation as a project electrical engineer for the people movers at various areas and airports throughout the country. He was a member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge #731, Shriners, Knights Templer, Scottish Rite and was a past master in 1996 of Theodore Roosevelt Lodge #697 and was the Grotto clown known as Tubby the Clown. He was a disabled Vietnam veteran serving in the US Marine Corps receiving an honorable discharge. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and other various organizations. His long battle with various health issues due to Agent Orange from Vietnam is over.

He touched many hearts, did right by others and was very unselfish and he fought for our freedom . He enjoyed his life to the fullest with his family and friends who love him dearly. He will be deeply missed and not forgotten. He will be in eternal peace without suffering anymore. Please remember freedom is not free so please thank a veteran and welcome them home.

Friends will be received at Strifflers of Dravosburg/West Mifflin Funeral Home, 740 Pgh.-McKeesport Blvd., Dravosburg, 15034 (412 678 6192) on Mon. from 2-8 pm. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 pm Mon. A family committal service will be held the following week with Rev. Paul Edwards officiating along with military honors.
