Mildred "Millie" Mae Walk

Mildred Mae "Millie" Walk, age 93, of White Oak, formerly of Port Vue, died peacefully at her son's residence on July 18, 2014. She was born in Janesville, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1921 and is the daughter of the late James and Fay Gordon Goss. She was the loving wife of 49 years to the late James Grant Walk. She was a member of St. Mark Church in Port Vue and their Ladies of Charity. She was lovingly known by family and friends as the "Cookie Lady", making large amounts of cookies to give to family and friends. During WWII, Millie worked for Union Barge Line aboard Towboat Reliance. After WWII, she owned and operated a beauty salon in the Philipsburg and McKeesport areas. While raising her family, she traveled to the homes of those who were not able to get out to fix their hair. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and loved writing poems and listening to country music.

She is survived by her sons; James (Pat) Walk of White Oak and Francis (the late Nina) Walk of Port Vue, sisters-in law; Lois Goss, of Laurel Fork, Virginia, Carmella Walk of Elizabeth Twp., JoAnn Walk Ferguson of Columbus, Mississippi, nieces and nephews, and her favorite companion, Daisy the dog. She is preceded in death by siblings; Zoe Hanich, Margaret Goss, Bertha Lollo, Kathryn Hubler, Frank and Jimmy Goss.

Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) Monday 2:00 to 4:00 pm & 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Mass will be at St. Mark Church, Romine Ave., Port Vue on Tuesday at 10:00 am with Father Daniel Straughn officiating.
