Mildred C. Slater, age 81, of McKeesport, died November 1, 2012. She was born in McKeesport in July of 1931 and is the daughter of the late Lewis and Leona Heakins Smith. She is the wife of the late John J. Slater. She is survived by children; Leona (William) Evans, Katherine (Jack) Heisterman and Delores (Michael) Slater Milliron; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, siblings; Mary Lou Spradlin, Rose Ann Fennell, Delmar Smith and the late Frank Shaw. Mildred was foremost a dedicated wife and mother. She described her most important role in life was to teach her children the fear of the Lord and being a fervent prayer warrior. When asked, "What can I pass on to my children that will empower and benefit them most", she always simply answered, 'PRAYER'! Ephesians 6:10-20. Mildred worked as a department manager for Shop-N-Save for numerous years. She enjoyed reading her bible, praying, cooking, gardening and travel. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members including caring for her mother before her passing at the young age of 70 years.

Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Monday from 4:00 PM until time of service at 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Beatrice Lamont officiating.
