Leslie Frank Petras

In loving memory of Leslie Frank Petras, age 88, of McKeesport, PA, who passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. He was born in McKeesport, PA on December 20, 1937 and was the son of the late Laszlo and Rose Margaret Barna Petras. He was the husband of the late Sarah C. Plummer Petras for over fifty-eight years.

Leslie began working in the steel mills of Duquesne and McKeesport that was interrupted with service in the United States Army, serving two years in the training center in Fort Knox, KY. Afterward, he entered the banking field with Western Pennsylvania National Bank that changed their name to Equibank N.A., with twenty-three years of service having managed six bank offices in their system with the last one being the White Oak office until accepting a position with Irwin Bank as Senior Vice President of the Commercial Lending Department. He officially retired after sixteen years and immediately became the Executive Director of the McKeesport Housing Corporation, where he was one of the founding members in 1985 of the nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding low-income homeowners to their housing units. There were over eight hundred properties upgraded within the city and over forty new homes constructed during his time as board chairman and director. He felt a special interest in improving the needs of elderly and low-income individuals, having been on the boards of Grandview Apartment, Inc., Steel Valley OIC, and McKeesport Housing Rental Corporation. He also served on the Mon-Yough Area Industrial Development Corporation as treasurer and with Blueroof Technologies. He served on the board of directors of Compass Savings Bank and C.I.A.C. in Wilmerding. He also served as an officer of the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post 701, Polish National Alliance Lodge 352, the McKeesport 11th Ward Welfare Association, the Croation Hall Lodge in Versailles, and South Wilmerding Firehall. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of Transfiguration of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, until the church closed in 2013. He also served as the treasurer of the William Penn Fraternal Association Branch 226 of McKeesport.

Leslie is survived by his daughter Danielle Lynn (Timothy Segina) Anthony of North Huntingdon, PA; grandchildren, Katherine Rose Anthony; Gabriel J. Anthony; sister-in-law, Ann Louise Petras; niece, Beth Ann Alberts; brother-in-law, Daniel Plummer; and cousins on the Barna side of the family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Leslie is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert F. Petras; and John F. Petras; and nephew, Scott David Petras.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Leslie’s memory on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial, officiated by the Rev. Father Donald J. Voss, will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 410 6th Street, McKeesport, PA 15132. An entombment will follow.
