John Flaherty, 76, of White Oak, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015. He was born in McKeesport on Jan. 14, 1939, and is the son of the late John and Catherine Faherty Flaherty. He served in the Army 3rd division and was a retired group leader in the maintenance department at USX Irvin Works. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post 701, president of the Board of Directors of the Legion Memorial Association, served as an Honor Guard, a member of the National AARP, and was a 1957 graduate of McKeesport Area High School. He is survived by his loving wife, Garnett Bosnak Flaherty; son, Kenneth (Sherry) Flaherty, of Versailles Borough; daughter, Tina (Jason) DeNunzio, of Angleton, Texas; sister, Mary (Frank) Kowalski, of San Diego, Calif., Anne Mesaros, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; grandchildren, Ashton, Devin, Taryn, Jonathan, Kalynn, Christian, Breann, Jason, Brittyn, Jessica and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Chase, Ryder, Breonna, Serena, Alaynna and Kyra. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131, (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor 412-678-6177). A blessing service will be held at 5 p.m. with Father Kevin Dominik officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
