John E.

John E. Pelar, Sr., age 87, of Port Vue, died Sept. 27, 2013. He was born in United, PA and was the son of the late Peter and Anna Kendi Pelar. He was retired as the Band Director from Rostraver and Duquesne High Schools. He then drove a school bus for twelve years for Laidlaw, was employed at Kennywood Park for three years and from 2000 until 2008 was employed at AMC Lowes Theater at the Homestead Waterfront.

He was a member of the NEA-R and PSEA-R, South Allegheny School Board, South Allegheny School Authority Board, the Port Vue American Legion Post #447, the Greensburg Musical Society, was a Clubsmen of Port Vue which was led by the late Robert Piatt, and served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, May Busch Pelar, children; Cynthia Gallaher and husband James of Shaler, Susan Cralle of Cocoa, Florida, John "Jack" Pelar, Jr. and wife Colleen of Springfield, VA and James Pelar of San Clemente, California, grandchildren; Darren Gallaher, Ryan Gallaher and wife Beth, Justin, Kyle, Brandon, and Joseph Pelar, and Alena McIntosh and husband Ricardo, great grandchild; Delanie Gallaher, sister; Virginia Stevens of Tyler, TX. He was preceded in death by brother Edward John who was 6 months of age.

Friends will be received at the Hunter Edmundson Striffler Funeral Home, 600 Market St, McKeesport, PA 15132, on Monday 2-4 pm and 6-8pm. Mass will be Tuesday at St. Mark's Church in Liberty Boro at 12:30 pm officiated by Fr. Daniel Straughn. Entombment will follow.
