George E. Lion, Sr., age 86, of Port Vue, died June 13, 2014. He was born in Springfield, Delaware County on June 15, 1927 and is the son of the late Walter A. and Mae Margaret Cantwell Lion and the beloved husband of the late Judith Kain Lion.
He was an Alumni of West Catholic High School and a graduate from Catholic University of America. He was in the U.S. Army in the Counter Intelligence Core Washington, D.C. during the Korean Conflict and was a Christian Brother prior to his marriage to Judith. He was the founder and CEO of the George E. Lion & Associates Inc. and a member of St. Mark Parish in Liberty Borough. He was a former member of St. Peters Parish in McKeesport and a member of the Port Vue American Legion Post #447.
He is survived by children; Elizabeth (Jeff) Sparks of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, George (Janet) Lion, Jr. of Elizabeth Twp., Margaret Heisler of Whitehall, Judith (Thomas) McCormick of Port Vue, Dennis (Kathleen) Lion of Saratoga Springs, New York, , Carolyn (Scott) Kaercher of Whitehall, Regina (John) Mima of Laurel, Maryland, grandchildren; Anneliese and Jeffrey Sparks, George III (Brianne) and Craig Lion, Edward (Chelsea), Stephen (Ali) and Melissa Heisler, Thomas, Patrick and Cate McCormick, Annemarie, Claire, Kathleen and Dennis Lion, Scott, Christopher, Sydney and Jacob Kaercher, Sarah and Audrey Mima, great-grandchild; Isabelle Heisler, siblings; Jim (Janet) Lion of Drexel Hill, Regina (Bill) Beatty of New Cumberland, sisters in-law; Mary Lou Lion of Uniontown and Jane Lion of Westchester. He is preceded in death by siblings; Mae (James) Lynch, and Walter, Frank (Rita) and Robert Lion.
Friends will be received at Strifflers of Dravosburg/West Mifflin, 740 Pgh.-McKeesport Blvd., Dravosburg, PA 15034 (412-678-6192) on Monday 6:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday 2:00-4:00 pm & 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral mass will be at St. Mark's Parish in Liberty Borough on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Father Daniel Straughn officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lebanon Mausoleum Chapel in West Mifflin.
