Fred R. Kugler

Fred R. Kugler, Sr., age 90, of McKeesport, died March 1, 2015. Born in McKeesport, Dec. 2, 1924 he is the son of the late Fred J. and Bertha Maxwell Kugler. He is a 1942 McKeesport High School graduate, attended Michigan State College while serving in the Army, specializing in Communications, before serving in the Pacific Theater until 1946. He was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 37 years as an Industrial Engineer then was a McKeesport School District bus driver for 12 years. He was a Charter Member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served on the Building committee of the new church, was a Sunday school teacher, served on the administrative council, was a Trustee, a member of the United Methodist Men, the Berrier Adult Sunday School Class and played on the Wesley Dartball Team. He also played for the former Mon-Yough Softball League. For over 20 years he was a volunteer for McKeesport Meals on Wheels, was a life member of Youghiogheny Lodge 583, Life Member and Chaplain of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest No. 138, A.A.S.R. Valley of Pittsburgh where he received their MSA award, a 50 year member of the R.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Valley of Pittsburgh Legion of Honor, Masonic Veterans, and the Sewickley High Twelve Club. His fondest memories were of the summers he spent with family and friends at Deep Creek, Maryland. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, water biking, was an avid golfer and member of Oakland Golf Club where he accomplished a "hole-in-one."

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret "Peggie" Kugler; children, Fred R. (Michelle) Kugler, Jr. of Jefferson Hills, JoAnne (Richard) Kugler Carl of Elizabeth Twp., Karen Lynn Kugler of McKeesport, Scott W. Kugler of West Palm Beach, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew & their families; several cousins & their families. He is preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Clarence J. Kugler and great-grandson, Matthew Wood.

Friends will be received at Strifflers' of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Wed. from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Broadway Ave. and Prescott St., White Oak on Thursday at Noon. Burial will follow.
