Elmer Virag, Jr., age 86, of McKeesport, died Dec. 18, 2011. He was born in N. Braddock on June 15, 1925 and is the son of the late Elmer and Elvira Koenig Virag and the husband of the late Vivian Bartges Virag.
He was a retired field engineer for Bell Telephone and served in the US Navy Pacific Theater in WWII. He was a member of Beulah Park United Methodist Church, the Youghiogheny Masonic Lodge # 583, F & AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Al-O-Man, Forest # 138, Syria Shriners/McK. Caravan # 4, Scottish Rite/Valley of Pittsburgh, Jacktown Ride & Hunt Club, White Oak American Legion Post #701, AARP White Oak Chapter #2294, and the Elks #11.
He is survived by children; Jay (Cindy) Virag of White Oak and Gayle (Dennis) Gibson of N. Huntingdon and Kurt Virag of Glassport, grandchildren; Abby and Kiley Virag, Scott and Steven Gibson, Zachary and Lea Virag, and fiancée Frances Fichtner of White Oak. He was preceded in death by siblings; Richard Virag, Nancy Kelley and Janice Ray.
Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412 678 6177) Tuesday from 6-8 pm and Wed. 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 10:00 am with Rev. Kathleen Barnhart officiating. Burial will follow.
