Earl Maxwell Hitchens

Earl Maxwell Hitchens, age 83, of White Oak, formerly of Liberty Borough died February 13, 2015. He was born in McKeesport on May 6, 1931 and is the son of the late Earl and Mary Ellen McBain Hitchens.

He is an Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He retired from USS National Tube and worked at the National Steel Workers Oldtimers Foundation. He was a member of the Port Vue American Legion and was the bar manager for many years. He was a steward at the Liberty Borough Veterans Association for 25 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Tummino Hitchens; children, Thomas J. Betz of McKeesport, Shawn Hitchens of Glassport, Darin Hitchens of Pittsburgh, Eric M. Betz of Rostraver, Shane (Donna) Hitchens of Port Vue, John Tummino of McDonald, Kerry (Jim) DiBattista of North Huntingdon, Katrina Betz (Stan) Louder of Johnstown, Sherry (Rob) Lanave of Elyria, Ohio, Michelle Betz (Thom) Wollum of Somerset; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nelson Hitchens of North Huntingdon and Donald Hitchens of Elizabeth. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Robinson Hitchens and sister, Dorothy Joll.

Friends will be received at Strifflers' of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Monday 3:00-5:00 PM & 7:00-9:00 PM. Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow.
