Dorothea "Dottie" K. Panko

Dorothea K. "Dottie" Panko 90, of North Myrtle Beach, formerly of West Mifflin, died August 8, 2013 at home while in Hospice care. She was born March 18, 1923 in Duquesne, Pa., the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Surgent Krucik.
After graduating from Duquesne High School, she supported her country's war effort during World War II, by working in U.S. Steel's Duquesne Works in the metallurgical laboratory. After an extended courtship, she married and when the war ended she became a full-time homemaker raising their two sons and being a second-mother to many of the neighborhood children.
She moved from West Mifflin to North Myrtle Beach, SC, with her beloved husband in 1985 where she pursued her enjoyment of the beach. Above all, she loved her family and many friends and kept them number one in her life.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Walter L. Panko, Sr., siblings Irene Krucik Gudenburr (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Michael B. Krucik (White Oak, Pa.), Mary Paraska Krucik (Duquesne, Pa.), and John M. Krucik (Boston, Pa,); and Daughter-in-Law Connie Panko (Greensburg, Pa.).
She is survived by her two sons; Dr. Walter L Panko and his wife Karen, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Craig M. Panko of Greensburg, Pa.; sister Eleanora Krucik Prostko, of McKees Rocks, Pa.; Sisters-in-Law Elizabeth Krucik of Boston, Pa. and Elsie Panko Telford of Peabody, Ma.; three grandchildren, Craig M. Panko, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, Carl Mark Panko, and Cathy Panko Torchia and her husband Dan; 4 great grandchildren, Craig M. Panko, III, Anthony Ryan Panko, Natasha Maria Torchia, and Amanda Jeanne Torchia; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8. Services be held Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow.
