Catherine R. “Tina” Marshall, age 91, died peacefully after a long, full life on February 27, 2024. Beloved wife of 61 years to the late Dennis Marshall. Loving mother of Christine (Tom) Grove, Michele (Mike) Hageman, and Laura (Bob) Collins. Grandmother of Dr. John Grove, Kaitie Grove, Adam Grove, 1st Lieutenant US Space Force - Matthew Hageman, Marshall Hageman, Nick Collins, and Megan Collins, and sister, Lucretia Zangrilli, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Orlando. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Salvatore Orlando, and N. Anthony Orlando.
Catherine was born on McKeesport on November 27, 1932, and is the daughter of the late Anthony and Rosina Orlando who migrated to the U.S. from Sicily. They built their version of the American Dream as owners of Orlando Brothers Market in McKeesport for over 50 years. Catherine was inspired to become an artist after trips to Italy, seeing the amazing artwork there.
Catherine studied art at Carnegie Tech and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She worked as a Commercial Artist in Columbus, OH and for Kaufmann’s in Pittsburgh creating newspaper advertisements for merchandise. She later raised her children in White Oak, PA. She was a caring mother, terrific cook, and had a green thumb for gardening. She continued to paint throughout life and has left many treasured paintings.
Catherine and her husband, Dennis, spent retirement in Englewood, Florida where they lived for 20 years, returning to Pittsburgh in 2017. Catherine cared for Dennis through his battle with dementia/lung cancer until his passing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends at her senior apartment in Oakdale, PA. Catherine was a member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church in Oakdale.
She will be remembered and loved always.
Family and friends are welcome at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, 1640 Fawcett Avenue, White Oak, PA 15131. Entombment will follow.
Remembrances may be made to the Special Olympics in Catherine’s memories in which her granddaughter Katie Grove is a participant.
