Carl J. Zajicek, 90, of McKeesport, died Sunday, July 4, 2010. Born June 5, 1920, in Clariton, he was the son of the late Florian and Mary Spitzelberger Zajicek. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine Hays Zajicek. He was retired from Fisher Body GM Plant, a member of St. Pius Church, McKeesport VFW No. 514, White Oak American Legion Post No. 701, NRA, Ducks Unlimited-Uniontown Chapter and lifetime member of the Clariton Sportsman Club and the Shaner Gun Club. He was a pilot in World War II, serving in Army Air Force. He served in the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group and 412th Squadron out of England. He was inducted into the Hall of Valor at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He flow more than 25 Missions.

He is also survived by children, Sharon (James) Maher, of North Rose, N.Y., Karen (Robert) DeVos, of Boca Raton, Fla., Michelle (Gary) Trbovich, of Elizabeth Township, and Karl G. (Denise) Zajicek of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren Kelly Maher-Roberts, Sean Maher, Lisa Luttenauer, Corrine Zajicek, and Alexander Trbovich; two great-grandchildren, Caitlin Roberts and Tyler Luttenauer; also a stepsister, Patricia Palyo, of Torrance, California. He was preceded in death by stepsiblings, John Gazdick and Geraldine Martin.

Friends were received July 6, 2010 at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). Mass was July 7, 2010 at St. Mary Czestochowa. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 12:00 noon at McKeesport/Versailles Mausoleum.
