Alice "Crawford" Joan Brawley

Alice Joan (Crawford) Brawley, 78, of Houston, Texas, died Sunday June 9, 2013. She was born August 28, 1934 in West Mifflin and is the daughter of the late Joseph Oliver Crawford and Mary M. Crawford.
Alice graduated from McKeesport High School where she participated in dance, theatre and debate. She then graduated from Muskingham University in New Concord, Ohio, where she was an education major and member of the Delta Gamma Theta sorority. There, she met her husband and life partner Robert (Bob) Brawley. After college she lived in Youngstown, Ohio, Dallas, Texas, and finally Houston, Texas, as Bob was in the pipe and oil business. Alice was a teacher and curriculum director for many years, and dabbled in the antique business. She was an avid reader, traveller and loved the theatre and fine arts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Irene F. Walsh. She is survived by and mother of Cindy Brawley -Scott and husband Mike of Dayton, Texas, grandchildren Annie Roberts and husband Blake of College Station, Texas, Shelley Armstong and Jimmray of Coldspring, Texas, and Katie Scott of League City, Texas, great grandchildren Reid and Grace.
She is also survived by her sister JoAnn McGoff and husband Pat of Reno, Nevada, aunts Helen Miller of Glassport, PA and Julia "Tootsie" Candelore of Blythedale, PA, brother-in-law Harry Walsh of White Oak, nieces and nephews, and best friend Bob Brawley.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kathleen Shadle and her staff at the Methodist Willowbrook Cancer Center for their exceptional and continuous care of Alice and her family.

Friends will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor) 412 678 6177 on Tues., June 18, 2013 from 10:00 am until the time of services at Noon. Entombment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
